Harris Funeral Home was first established in 1889 in Nebo, Kentucky by Mr. R.J. Harris. At that time visitation was conducted in the home or at a local church then the body was conveyed by a horse drawn hearse for interment in the local cemetery.
Mr. Sidney T. Harris took over his father's business, and moved the funeral home to Madisonville, Kentucky in 1922 then purchased the Jennings property at 134 N. Main Street from Margaret Finley, in 1938, where it has been located until today. Mr. and Mrs. Harris moved into the upstairs of the residence and used the bottom floors of this beautiful home for the funeral home, creating the only full-sized chapel in Hopkins County in the 1970's on the south end of the residence.
Edward “Eddie” Wilson started working for Harris Funeral Home in 1960. He became a partner in 1969 joining Sidney Harris, Eva Harris, Harley Stokes, and Tommy Craft. Eddie’s wife, Dorothy Wilson, started working full-time in 1993. After Eva Harris passed away in 2003, being the last surviving partner, Eddie Wilson became the sole owner of Harris Funeral Home. His son, Tim Wilson, joined the staff in 2005 and became a funeral director in early 2008.
After Eddie’s passing, Trudi Wilson joined the staff in 2008 and became a funeral director in 2024. Soon after, Tim and Trudi’s son, Josten Wilson also joined in 2008 and served as a funeral director until May 2021. Dorothy Wilson retired in July 2021.
