Paul Tompkins established Monument Works in 1967 as an extension of Tompkins Funeral Home. In 2003, Chip Tomblinson purchased the funeral home and monument company, renaming Monument Works to Tomblinson Monument Company.
In 2014, Chip separated the monument company from the funeral home to its first office on the southeast corner of First and Green streets in Henderson. In 2016, the monument company purchased the building at 317 First Street, located across the adjoining parking lot of Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson.
Chip managed the monument company until hiring Sam Johnston in 2014 to oversee sales and installations. Tamara Lambert joined the team in 2017, specializing in sales and marketing. She manages the office in Henderson and acquired her funeral director's license in 2020.

Chip Tomblinson grew up in the Ashbyburg area in Northern Hopkins County. He is the son of the late Billy Charles and Mary Estelle (Brown) Tomblinson and the Grandson of Hailey and Mittye (Ashby) Tomblinson of Ashbyburg and Lawrence and Sarah (Duckworth) Brown of Poole. He has two children. His eldest is Leah who is a 2011 graduate of Western Kentucky University who joined the staff of Tomblinson Funeral Homes following graduation. She is a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. Alex is his youngest who is serving in the United States Marine Corps. Chip attended Hanson Elementary School and graduated from Madisonville North Hopkins High School, class of 1981.
He then attended Madisonville Community College where he received an Associates Degree in Business Management. He worked in the automotive industry in the area for several years before becoming a Territory Manager for Farmers Hybrid. He then went on to attend mortuary school in 1993. He graduated from Mid-America School of Mortuary Science with honors and an Associates Degree of Mortuary Science in 1994. He was also a member of Pi Sigma Eta Fraternity. After graduation, he then worked for Tompkins Funeral Homes in Sebree and Slaughters where he had worked part time while in Mortuary School. After several years at Tompkins Funeral Homes, he purchased the company in 2003. The funeral homes were operated under the Tompkins name until the death of the founder Paul D. Tompkins.
The name of the funeral homes were changed in July 2006 to Tomblinson Funeral Homes. In 2005, he also purchased the Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington, KY. In March 2011, he opened the Henderson Chapel. Chip is a member of the Hanson United Methodist Church.
Sam graduated in 2011 from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Science and Construction Management. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Sam met Chip's daughter, Leah Tomblinson, while they both attended WKU and they were married in 2014. On August 31, 2017, they welcomed their first child Stella Reese Johnston and their second, born August 20, 2020, Maverick Carter Johnston. They also have fur babies, Atticus and Kaiser. Sam and his family are members of Holy Name Catholic Church.
At Tomblinson Monument Company, Sam is the sales and installation manager. He has worked with the monument company since 2014. His hobbies are woodworking, hunting and fishing.
Tamara Lambert was born in Murray, Kentucky to Stephen and Susan Starks of Benton, Kentucky. She lived in Marshall County and graduated from Marshall County High School in 1996.
In 2013, she graduated magna cum laude from Murray State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations. Tamara has worked in the funeral business with her husband, Jon Lambert since 2014. Tamara oversees office operations at Tomblinson Monument Company and specializes in sales and marketing. Additionally, she is a licensed funeral director and life insurance agent.
Her hobbies include camping, beach vacations, and spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She and Jon live in Henderson with their cats, Mosey and Bootsie.
